우리는 때로 두려워합니다. 남들이 모르게 내적인 두려움에 자신도 모르게 잡힐때가 있습니다. 미래에 대한 두려움, 내일에 대한 두려움, 만나고 일해야 하는 사람들에 대한 두려움, 실패에 대한 두려움, 완벽하지 못할까봐의 두려움 등등. 그러나 주님른 오늘 계시록의 말씀으로 우리에게 위로하십니다.
이르시되 두려워하지 말라 나는 처음이요 마지막이니 (계시록 1:17)
우리는 우리가 어디에 있는지를 모를때 두려워합니다. 나의 삶이 어디에 있는지, 어떻게 될것인지를 확신하지 못하기에 하루 하루에 불안하고 그 하루안에 발생하는 일들에 두려워합니다. 그러나 마치 병뚜껑을 열고 막듯이 우리의 삶의 시작과 마지막이 되시는 주님, 나의 삶에 대한 열쇠를 쥐고 계시는 하나님, 마지막을 쥐고 계시는 하나님께서.나의 삶을 완성하실것이기에 두려워할 필요가 없습니다.

Christus sprach: Fürchte dich nicht! Ich bin der Erste und der Letzte und der Lebendige. (Offenbarung 1,17f)
"Das ist ja wohl das Letzte!", sagen wir manchmal, wenn wir uns über etwas oder jemand ärgern. Das heißt dann so viel wie: "Schlimmer geht's nimmer." Der Letzte ist dagegen etwas völlig anderes. Die Rede ist von dem, nach dem nichts mehr kommt. Hier spricht also jemand, der die Zukunft in der Hand hält. Wenn er gleichzeitig der Erste ist, bedeutet dies: Auch vor ihm war niemand. Er hat demnach auch die tiefste Vergangenheit im Blick. Und wenn er schließlich der Lebendige ist, dann ist auch die Gegenwart sein Metier. Vor uns steht jemand, der alles, wirklich alles durchschaut Das ist beglückend und bedrohlich zugleich. Allerdings zeigt die Kleidung dieses Wesens: Es ist eine hohepriesterliche Gestalt, also jemand, der vermittelnd vor Gott für uns Menschen eintritt. Und das macht Christus in aller Würde und Macht zu einer tröstenden Erscheinung, der jeder verängstigten Seele zuspricht: "Hab keine Angst! Du warst, bist und bleibst in meiner Hand!" (Sto-W)
Liebe und Respekt
"Du hast aber eine große Starkheit!" So formulierte es meine Tochter einst mit kindlicher Bewunderung, wenn ich sie als kleines Mädchen mit Schwung auf die Schultern hob und mit ihr durch Wald und Wiesen rannte. Für sie war diese "Starkheit" wichtig, denn sie vermittelte ihr ein Gefühl von Schutz und Geborgenheit. Allerdings konnte das mit der respekteinflößenden Kraft auch kippen. Etwa, wenn hin und wieder einmal eine Ermahnung nötig war. Dann reichte ein strenger Blick in Verbindung mit einer etwas betonteren Nennung ihres Namens, um sie fast erstarren zu lassen - was mir dann wiederum in der Seele wehtat. Diese Spannung von Geborgenheit und Furcht in der Erfahrung von väterlicher Autorität ist wichtig, denn sie verbindet Liebe mit Respekt. Insofern ist es gut, wenn die Offenbarung des Johannes uns erinnert, dass der Gott, zu dem wir Abba (Papa) sagen dürfen, gleichzeitig der Richter und Herr der Welt ist.

Heaven’s True Beauty

Jesus said, “If I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back and take you to be with me
that you also may be where I am.” - John 14:3 (NIV)
During the 1980s I visited the Philippines on several occasions. I always looked forward to my daily run along a jungle road. It stretched from the city up the mountain through the most beautiful country one could ever see. The huge tropical trees were like spires reaching toward heaven. Occasionally I would jog through the scent of some lovely tropical flower. Off in the distance lay the sparkling sea. As a new Christian at that time, I often imagined that heaven must look something like that.
When we think about heaven, it is often about the magnificence of the place, the pearl gates and the streets of gold. We try to imagine what it looks like, just as I did on my jungle run. Heaven will certainly be a glorious place; but over the years as I have reread today’s verse from John, I have come to realize that my longing is not so much for a place, but for a person. Heaven will be so wonderful because Jesus is there. We will be with him, looking into the face of the One who loves us with an everlasting love!
TODAY'S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, help us to meditate on eternity even as we experience the troubles of this day. Help us to increasingly reflect the joy of your presence in the world. Amen.

La verdadera belleza
del cielo

Jesús dijo: «Y después de irme y de prepararles un lugar, vendré otra vez para llevarlos conmigo, para que ustedes estén en el mismo lugar
en donde yo voy a estar». - Juan 14:3 (DHH)
Durante la década de los años ochenta visité varias veces las Filipinas. Siempre esperaba con gusto el ejercicio de correr diariamente a lo largo de la carretera en la jungla. Ésta se extendía desde la ciudad hacia la cima de la montaña, cruzando los paisajes más hermosos que existen. Los enormes árboles tropicales se veían como agujas de iglesias elevándose hacia el cielo. En ocasiones podía oler el perfume de alguna flor. Lejos, a la distancia, se avistaba el mar, brillando. En aquellos días hacía poco que era cristiano, e imaginaba que el cielo debía parecerse mucho a aquel lugar.
Cuando pensamos en el paraíso, a menudo imaginamos lo magnífico del lugar, las puertas con perlas y las calles de oro. Intentamos imaginar cómo será, así como yo lo hacía mientras corría. El cielo ciertamente es un lugar glorioso, pero a través de los años y al releer el versículo de Juan, he descubierto que no anhelo tanto un espacio sino a una persona. El cielo será maravilloso porque Jesús está allí. Estaremos junto a Él, mirando cara a cara a Aquél que nos ama con un amor eterno.
ORACIÓN DE HOY
Señor Jesús, ayúdanos a meditar en la eternidad, aunque estemos viviendo pruebas cada día, y a reflexionar cada vez más en el gozo de tu presencia en el mundo. Amén.
